HOW ARE THE EYELIDS ARE AFFECTED BY AGING?
The first areas on the face to show the first signs of aging are the tender skin that surrounds the eyes and the eyelids. Sagging, drooping, excess skin and unsightly crow’s feet begin to appear gradually as an individual grows older. Most of the time, these changes are cosmetically unattractive, but they can also irritate your eyes or hinder your vision.
Ptosis
As individuals get older, their upper eyelids will begin to sag, and this is normal; this usually occurs when the fibrous and muscles structures that support the eyelids start to lose their strength. This sagging is what is referred to as ptosis.
Although the sagging of eyelids is usually are a result of aging, it can as well be caused by disease or injury. Saggy upper eyelids are just an aesthetic concern under some circumstances, but it can gradually become severe. Most of the time, the sagging becomes so significant and severe that the lid covers part of the pupil or the entire pupil; and this can affect your vision.
Blepharochalasis
Blepharochalasis is a natural, but uncommon aging effect which is also caused by loss of strength in the support structures and muscles of the eyelids. Over time, the elastic quality of the skin is lost, and it starts to droop. This, coupled with the constant gravity pull, can result in the gathering of extra skin on both the lower and upper eyelids.
When this scenario occurs on the upper eyelid, it can result in the formation of a new skin fold which can droop over the eyelashes and disrupt the upper part vision of an individual. For more information visit website #eyelid surgery santa barbara.
