During the Brazilian Jiu jitsu competition or
training session, it is often asked who among the two grapplers who are
supposedly having equal skills will eventually become victorious. Most people
and sportsmen will argue that the more technical among the two grapplers will
win.
It should be stated
that technique is very important when it comes to Jiu Jitsu sport. It is the
same thing as skills which more than one athlete can possess equally. In this
kind of situation, strength and conditioning will determine who will become
victorious. As far as Jiu Jitsu and similar contact sports are concerned, the
advantage of strength and condition training programs go beyond performing
excellently.
Strength and
conditioning training programs for a Basic
Jiu Jitsu competition will make the participant to be very outstanding
in terms of health. Such a grappler will be less susceptible to have serious
injury during the competition.
A well-designed
strength and conditioning program for grapplers will need to focus less on the
conditioning while the strength training is taken seriously. Strength is what
will make grapplers able to tussle and wrestle better. Deadlifting is very
important in every form of Jiu Jitsu. But it will not make the grappler good at
arm bars. The goal of having sessions at the gym is to be able to get stronger.
This is talking about.
Ø Making different
kinds of movement.
Ø Weightlifting and
Ø All forms of
recovery work
But these are not exclusively what BJJ strength training is all about.
Jiu Jitsu strength training is very important to grapplers due to so many
reasons such as.
1.
To improve the
health and performance of the athletes.
2.
To maximize the
athlete or grappler’s strength-to-weight ratio
3.
To reduce loss of
muscle mass of the grapplers as their bodies age.
4.
To lessen the Jiu
Jitsu athlete’s injury risk.
While strength
training reduces risk to having injury, it is also the best way for the
grappler to improve his technical skills. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu athletes will need to spend more time on the
mat than sitting on its side if he is not injury prone.
The medical term
for loss of strength due to loss of muscles in the body is known as Sarcopenia.
It is a strength and conditioning training program that focuses more on
strength that can prevent Sarcopenia and help in the healthy aging process of
Jiu Jitsu athletes. With strength training, your body will be able to hold more
muscle mass than normal.
There are however
some misconceptions when it comes to Brazilian
Jiu Jitsu strength training programs. Some athletes believe that
heavy-weight practice in strengthen during Jiu Jitsu training slows them down.
This is a misconception in that heavy-weight lifting helps your body to recruit
most muscle fibers especially, the type II. Weightlifting is also designed for
intense, short, and quick movement which is highly required in grappling
methods and techniques.
