Golf was born in Scotland over 550 years ago.
It was not a fast growing sport as evidenced by the small number of golf
courses that existed in Scotland in its initial days. By the year 1850 there were only 20 golf
courses in Scotland. But these scenarios have changed over the next two
centuries and there were 275 golf courses in the country by the year 1900. Today there are more than 550 golf courses in
Scotland.
Now the country has become littered with golf
courses at every nook and corner of the country. You will be seeing someone
either pulling or pushing the golf trolley along the way as you travel in the
country.
At present Scotland is known as the home of
golf and the Scottish golf courses are superior ones. Golf was originally
started playing on the sea shores. Some of the main golf courses across the

South west region: Every region of Scotland is
well littered with a number of good quality Golf courses. The southwest area of
Scotland spans from Gretna in the south to Oban in the north. There are approximately
more than 100 golf courses in this area.
All golf lovers visit the Isle of Arran as
there are 7 courses lying nearer to each other. World famous golf courses like
Shiskine, Brodick, Lamlash, Machrihanish Dunes etc. are in this area. Ayrshire

will not be complete without performing a visit to Edinburgh, its capital. This
wonderful capital is not like many other capitals of various countries. What

Lothian located at the east of Edinburgh is a coastal stretch packed with the

Central Region: Scotland central
region is the most populated area and is the home of some fine inland golf
courses. Many of these golf courses can be easily accessed through Glasgow

inland golf courses in the country.
