Termination Without Cause vs. With Cause: Key Differences Explained

Losing a job is never easy, and the experience can be even more confusing when the termination happens without cause. In Ontario, “termination without cause” means an employer has ended an employee’s position for reasons unrelated to misconduct or poor performance. While this type of dismissal may sound unfair, it is permitted under employment law—provided the employer follows specific rules regarding notice and compensation.
