The Basics of Rotational Molding: An Introduction

Rotational molding, also known as rotomolding, is a versatile manufacturing process used to create hollow plastic products. Unlike other molding techniques, such as injection molding or blow molding, rotational molding involves heating and rotating a hollow mold filled with powdered resin. Here's all you need to know about this fascinating process.

Rotational molding begins with the loading of powdered resin, typically polyethylene, into a hollow mold. The mold is then heated and rotated simultaneously in multiple axes. As the mold rotates, the powdered resin melts, coating the interior surface evenly. The rotation continues until the resin has completely melted and adhered to the mold's surface, forming the desired shape. After cooling, the product is removed from the mold, resulting in a seamless, hollow plastic part.
